Manage Organization

A vital step to get started with your ImpactMapper account is to set up your organizational profile. Simply navigate to the person icon in the top right corner of the platform and click Manage Organization. From there, you will see four tabs: Settings, Manage Users, Dictionary, and Data Sources.

Manage organization menus

Settings-4

The Settings menu allows you to customize various aspects of your organization, such as the number of users, organizational description, and your organizational data (i.e., details of your grants or partners' data), among others. Let's explore in more detail below what you can see in the Settings tab.

Organizational Details

The Organizational details section enables you to set your account name (such as your organization's name) and upload your organizational logo. You can further customize by adding a description of your organization and entering a contact email.

The Currency field is especially relevant if your organization funds, say, grantees, or startups. This part is also important if you will create a grants-based project or investment-based project. In the dropdown selection, you can select the type of currency for your funding (i.e., Euro, Canadian dollars, Australian dollars, etc).

currency

NOTE:

  • To reiterate, organizational data can be your grants and grantee data, startups, or portfolio investments that you add to ImpactMapper before you start your grants- or investment-based project. Thus, it is important that you set the currency you are using for your funding data on the Settings page, if you are not using USD which is our default setting. This is especially important when you are transferring your data to ImpactMapepr via csv import tool. To learn more about organizational data, click here.

There are two ways of adding your organizational data to ImpactMapper. One way is to add one by one manually  and this is advisable if you have fewer organizational (i.e., grants or investment) data. However, for larger datasets, the csv import tool method is ideal. Adding your grants or investment data through the import tool requires data cleaning and our team is ready to help. Contact us for guidance on importing organizational data easily.

    Billing Settings

This is where the number of users or licensees, based on your ImpactMapper contract is set.

    Funding types

Like the Currency section, the Funding types field is also relevant to organizations that provide funding (grants, investments, etc.) support. This section specifically displays the default funding type in ImpactMapper illustrated in the screenshot below. However, if your organization has a type of funding outside of the default options, you can enter this by clicking Manage.

When you import your organizational data to ImpactMapper (via csv import or adding your organizational [i.e., grants] data one by one) for your grants-based project, your custom entries will be reflected, allowing you to select the funding type that aligns with your organization's unique needs.

Grant or Investment Statuses and Regions

Similar to Currency and Funding types, Grant / Investment statuses and Regions show the default grant status and regions in ImpactMapper. Grant / Investment statuses can be customized via clicking Manage, while Regions can be customized by clicking the Add Custom Region button at the bottom. Your modifications will then be available for selection when you add your organizational data to ImpactMapper for your grants- or investment-based project.

    Custom Fields

ImpactMapper allows richer analysis of your organizational data by entering detailed information about them (i.e., grant/investment name, issue, strategy, etc.). To support setting up of your organizational data, ImpactMapper has a pre-existing list of information that you can use. This includes currency, funding type, status, region,  name, description, and thematic categories such as portfolio list, issue list, strategies list, and population list, to name a few (click here and here for these default data).

If any of the pre-existing lists do not include your organizational framework and taxonomies, you can tailor the information through the Custom Fields. In this section, you can add more data beyond the default. In this case, for instance, you can add 'Sector recipients' for your grants and 'Type of Organization' for your grantees, accommodating specific taxonomies used by your organization.

    manage users header-1

The Manage Users page contains individual/s in your organization who use/s ImpactMapper. The number of ImpactMapper users depends on the number of licensees set in the Settings page (under the Billing settings) which is aligned with your ImpactMapper contract. The same page contains the ImpactMapper staff who have access to your account.

    dictionary 1

In ImpactMapper, your organizational data is called Grant and Grantee by default. If needed, you can change this via the Organization Dictionary based on your needs or preferences.

For example, if you are an investor, change 'grants' to 'investments' and 'grantees' to 'companies'. If you are a nonprofit, change 'grants' to 'projects' and 'grantees' to 'partners'. If you have a fellowship program, change grants to 'scholarships' and 'grantees' to individuals. If you are a multilateral or bilateral organizations, you may want to have grants stay the same, but change 'grantees' to 'Country Offices'. The use cases of our platform are diverse and you can customize it according to your unique organizational context and populations you work with through the dictionary.

When making changes to your Organization Dictionary, enter the new name or term in singular (e.g., Partner or Funding).

Please note as well that there are two types of Dictionary in ImpactMapper. The first one is the Organization Dictionary which is on the Manage Organization page. Changing the name of your organizational data in the Organization Dictionary  will be applied across ALL of your projects in the tool.

There is also a Project Dictionary,  which is project specific, in case with you work with different populations. This means a change in the name at the project dictionary level data will only be reflected in that particular project and NOT in ALL of your projects in the tool.

You can change your organization or project dictionary anytime.

      Data sources

ImpactMapper allows for seamless data integration and transfer from other apps. You can sync with ImpactMapper via the Data Sources page with your Fluxx data. You can also set up here the importing of your transcribed data from your Trint account.
